Humanitarian Assistance Program

Through its Humanitarian Assistance Program, INMED actively seeks donations of medicines, medical supplies and equipment and other relief items from large corporations and small businesses in support of its programs around the world and to aid in emergency situations.

Contributions of medicines, medical supplies, equipment and other relief items are based on specific needs; INMED solicits, accepts, and ships only products which are locally requested. It does not accept donated products for which there is not a verifiable need and which ultimately will not have an impact on the local health or humanitarian situation. Before delivery of any product, INMED follows rigorous protocols, which assure that the donation is needed and that the recipients know how to use the products.

In 2004, the Humanitarian Assistance Program channeled more than $21 million in donations of medicines, medical equipment and supplies, clothing and linens, office supplies and other goods to private voluntary organizations, hospitals, and medical research facilities in Central and South America, Africa and South Asia.

In addition to joining the global emergency response to the South Asian tsunami with donations of medicines, linens and temporary shelters, INMED’s Humanitarian Assistance also contributed to the following efforts in 2004, among others:

  • Providing essential medicines and medical supplies, linens and hospital products to hospitals, clinics, orphanages and refugee camps across Afghanistan, in partnership with Orchard International, Islamic Relief USA, Sandoz, ImageFirst and Arlotta Enterprises.
  • Delivering medical linens, scrubs, blankets and other hospital products to a desperately underequipped clinic in Sierra Leone, in partnership with ImageFirst and the U.S. government.
  • Facilitating donations of cancer treatments to underfunded oncology facilities and pediatric hospitals in Central and South America, in partnership with the National Cancer Coalition.
  • Providing clothing, fabric, blankets, linens and towels to residents of refugee camps in Darfur, Sudan, in partnership with MADRE, Zenab for Women in Development and Image First.
  • Contributing medicines and linens to more than a dozen hospitals around Buenos Aires, Argentina, in partnership with the Order of Malta, Sandoz and ImageFirst. As a result of this work, INMED was awarded the Medal of Honor by the Order of Malta for its work with the poor and impoverished in Argentina during 2004.
