Improving Teacher Training

Building on the work of the USAID-supported Centers of Excellence for Teacher Training Partnership Program (CETT) led by INMED in 14 nations across Latin America and the Caribbean, INMED has continued to implement and refine the CETT program of teacher training in partnership with the Education Department of Tobago. Dedicated grant funding has helped equip Tobago’s schools with improved educational resources and to train primary school teachers in best practices for literacy instruction. Phase II of this work, to be formally launched in Fall 2008, will expand and institutionalize the program to train all 750 public primary school teachers on the island, utilizing master teachers as multipliers of the training content. INMED will also lead the development of a sustainability plan for this teacher training and school excellence initiative, focusing on partnerships with private sector entities.
