INMED’s MotherNet/Healthy Families Loudoun Program Awarded Grant to Provide Support, Education for New Families

Sterling, VA, June 6, 2007 – For any new parents, pregnancy and childrearing is a challenging time filled with questions and concerns—but even more so if they don’t know where to turn for answers and support to help them raise their child in a safe, healthy, nurturing environment.

Through INMED Partnerships for Children’s MotherNet/Healthy Families Loudoun program, approximately 50 pregnant women and new families will receive the help they need to give their children the healthiest possible start in life, thanks in part to a $10,000 grant from the Family and Children’s Trust Fund of Virginia.

“MotherNet/Healthy Families Loudoun understands that all parents want to give their children the best start in life,” said María Elena Vásquez, manager of the MotherNet/Healthy Families Loudoun program. “We are grateful for the support of the Family and Children’s Trust Fund, which will allow us to directly reach out to some of the most vulnerable families in our community and help them achieve the goals they have set for themselves and their children.”

Since 1994, INMED’s MotherNet/Healthy Families Loudoun program has provided hundreds of local families with intensive in-home parenting education, monitoring of children’s progress toward developmental milestones, emotional and practical support to achieve family-directed goals, and links to other appropriate community resources. The program’s center-based parent education and support groups and a family resource center—both of which are open to the community at large—also provide complementary education and support services, with an emphasis on the local Spanish-speaking population.
