Job Skills Training for Domestic Violence Survivors

   Location: Compton, California

More than a third of the women participating in INMED’s Los Angeles programs at any given time are involved in some sort of domestic violence situation. Because financial dependence is often the final tie that binds a victim to her abuser, INMED has developed a job training program for survivors of domestic violence to help them gain the skills they need to achieve stability and self-sufficiency.

Through INMED’s job skills training program, domestic violence survivors attend a 10-session job training course focusing on the challenges of traditionally hard-to-employ individuals such as those with limited education, criminal records or a poor employment history. In addition to customary job readiness skills such as resume development, interviewing skills, how to use the Internet to find a job and following up after submitting a resume, the course covers such topics as job ethics, career development, social skills, and workplace dos and don’ts.
